Social media is a powerful tool to build brands, spread awareness of causes and stay connected with the outside world. DJ Dizzy says from his experience, Social media just gives access to audiences who are interested in what you’re doing without physically being next to them. It also opens doors for people who have not had proper exposure to their talent. Social media has gotten DJ Dizzy in rooms and shows all across the country. The various social media platforms available to us today expanded his network and following to people who aren’t around him but love his work. It also allows DJ Dizzy to be in multiple places at once. DJs will play his mixes in their city without DJ Dizzy even being there. We got to dive in deeper with DJ Dizzy to fully understand the power of social media from someone who has built a huge following and fan base.

What made you gravitate to TikTok and what has been your secret to building up your following?

DJ Dizzy: Originality, I wanted to expose the Baltimore sound to an audience bigger than just Baltimore. Some of the sounds I’ve uploaded were sounds us Baltimore DJs have been using for years but it is fresh to people across the world. I wanted to be the hub or a household name that represents Baltimore music online on all platforms. I just so happened to be the first to do it.

Please tell us about Baltimore TikTok, and how did it start?

DJ Dizzy: I released my first Baltimore TikTok sound in 2021 combining a Baltimore party theme song “On Deck” by Gucci Mane with a loop from the Viral “SideTalkNYC” Bing Bong vocal. I knew when the sound dropped it would be used for videos specifically from Baltimore TikTok users. I wanted us to have our own hashtag for our city just like the other major cities with their own dances. After everything was set up, I reached out to some popular Baltimore dancers and influencers and between all of us we began the trend of Baltimore dances being displayed on TikTok to mixes that we would only hear in our city, using the #BaltimoreTikTok hashtag to highlight us specifically.

What do you see for the future of Baltimore creators on TikTok?

DJ Dizzy: I would love to see our DJs and dancers get the recognition and platform they deserve. I see industry placements and endorsement deals for my peers and influencers who’ve collected millions of impressions just doing Baltimore dances like the Park Heights Strut, Baltimore 2 Step, and more. I would love to see Baltimore DJs/producers making money and connections from our mashups that are played all across the country.

Who are your favorite Baltimore influencers you think we should take note of?

DJ Dizzy: Definitely my TSU gang who was one of the first Baltimore dance group to post videos on TikTok. They are popular for creating the ROTM challenge to my song. Shaggy, Flash, Terry, and a few more.

RunItUpJordan, BeatzbyDre, and Dancin Bari have been creating their own dances.

Definitely S/O to DJ Zay (creator of the Free Minds Baltimore Mix) and the TTS squad Lor Donnie, Moe, and Cue Ave who took #BaltimoreTikTok to another level.

What would you suggest to other upcoming DJs utilizing TikTok?

DJ Dizzy: Just be consistent and do your own thing! Mashups and Serato stems are taking over the world, but copying trends from cities you know nothing about is kind of wack to me. Represent your area and what you’re good at, with your fanbase, and keep supplying what your people want.

Any new projects that you are working on?

DJ Dizzy: I am currently working on a mixtape that has some of the popular Baltimore blends and some new ones of course. TikTok usually has snippets or 45-sec clips of songs and alot of the users want the full versions. On my Return of The Mack remix, I am currently working on an official release with the artist himself. Just trying to take what we are doing to the next level.
